How to update Facebook (and most social networks, such as Twitter and Google Plus) via Siri.

Politely ask Siri to send an email to 'facebook'.

Ok, this is a seriously simple one, and I think it works with all the main social networks. After a quick google, I’m not the first to think this work-around. Any of the social networks you can update via Email, this’ll work with. I’m going to show you how to do it via Facebook, but the theory is the same with the others.

Set up updating via email

On Facebook, if you browse to m.facebook.com, and try to upload a photo, it’ll give you an email address that you can send an email to that’ll update your status. Save this as a contact called ‘facebook’ in your address book.

Now let Siri do it’s magic

Ask Siri to “Send an email to Facebook” or whatever social network you have saved as a contact. It’ll then ask you for a subject, and body. This’ll be your status. If you want to attach a picture to it, instead of tapping ‘confirm’, tap the little preview of the email, and it’ll take you straight into the email app where you can attach a picture.

Yes, it’s THAT simple.

That’s it ! Although Apple have a WWDC conference this time next month, and the smart money is on them doing this a better way, hopefully with what they call an API; something that’ll let devs tap into how Siri works.
